The New Jersey Historic Preservation Certified Local Government (CLG) Fund is designed to provide an opportunity for local governments to become more directly involved in identifying, evaluating, protecting, promoting, and enhancing the educational and economic value of local properties of historic, architectural, and archeological significance. Funds can be used for surveys, outreach materials, planning activities, and pre-development projects. Award sizes range from $15,000 - $50,000. Applications are due February 28th, 2025.
Interested applicants can learn more by clicking here.
To become a CLG, a local government must have enacted a preservation ordinance that establishes a Historic Preservation Commission with the authority to designate local historic properties and review proposed changes to those properties. The requirements for certification are outlined in the document “New Jersey’s Certified Local Government Guidelines,” available from the Historic Preservation Office (HPO) or online.
Applications for certification are accepted continuously; please note that only those governments that have achieved certified status are eligible to apply for funding under this program.
