Weekly Grant Round-Up

The United States Department of Agriculture's (USDA) Rural Development provides funding to develop or improve essential public services and facilities. Projects include fire and rescue stations, town halls, health care clinics, hospitals, childcare centers, assisted living facilities, rehabilitation centers, public buildings, schools, libraries, and many other community-based initiatives. This program has a rolling application deadline until funding is exhausted. Rural areas including cities, villages, and towns with no more than 20,000 residents according to the latest U.S. Census Data are eligible for this program.

The leaves are changing color, pumpkin spice lattes are being served, and The NJ Department of Environmental Protection's (NJDEP) Green Acres Program has returned! Applications for land acquisition, park development, stewardship, Jake’s Law (Completely Inclusive Playgrounds), and Urban Parks projects are open and the deadline to submit is February 5, 2025. Supplemental funding requests for active projects are also due on February 5, 2025. 

It has been announced that all approved loans will now carry a 0% interest rate. Acquisition loans are repayable over 30 years; development loans are repayable over 20 years.

The Environmental Protection Agency's Solid Waste Infrastructure Program (SWIFR) helps communities transform their recycling and solid waste management. Eligible projects for this grant include, but are not limited to:

  • Programs that increase access to waste prevention, reuse, and recycling.

  • Purchasing recycling equipment for a community, such as sorting equipment, waste metering, recycling trucks, or processing facilities.

  • Education and outreach activities that work alongside larger recycling-based projects.

Awards for this program range from $500,000 to $5,000,000. Applicants can submit an optional "Notice of Intent to Apply" by November 15, and full applications are due by December 20, 2024.

The American Academy of Dermatology's (AAD) Shade Structure Program funds schools, daycares, parks, and other nonprofit organizations to install permanent shade structures that protect children while they learn and play. Grantees will receive up to $8,000 to go towards the costs of purchasing shade structure materials and installing them in a public area. The AAD will also provide a permanent sign to be placed near the shade structure. This sign features sun-safety tips to encourage safe play. Interested applicants must submit a letter of recommendation from an AAD dermatologist, and applications are due December 15, 2024.
