Weekly Grant Round-Up

The Bureau of Justice Assistance's "Body-Worn Camera Policy and Implementation Program" helps municipalities and their police departments. Funds can be used to purchase, lease, or replace body-worn cameras for officers. Applicants can also propose demonstration projects for better using body-worn cameras, as well as projects that use body-worn cameras to improve a police department's officer training. Through this program, municipalities can receive up to $2,000 for purchasing or leasing a new body-worn camera for each sworn officer in a police department, with an award cap of $2,000,000 per applicant. There is a 50% match requirement to this program. Initial budgetary forms are due on July 15, and complete applications are due July 24. The NJ Department of Transportation has multiple grants with rapidly approaching July 1st submission deadlines. Act now to secure funding.

The Municipal Aid Program is a competitive program intended to provide municipalities with transportation-based grants to supplement their transportation programs. Eligible projects include improving bridge infrastructure, reducing congestion in traffic areas, enhancing pedestrian safety, and enhancing vehicular safety. The Safe Streets to Transit (SSTT) program provides funding to counties and municipalities to improve access to transit facilities and all public transportation nodes. Eligible projects include intersection safety measures, constructing sidewalks, traffic control devices, and enhanced pedestrian signals. This program has $1 million in total funding. The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) Bikeway Grant Program provides funds to promote bicycling as an alternate mode of transportation in New Jersey. Municipalities can apply to this program to fund construction-ready bike lanes, and bike paths. This program has $1 million in total funding. Click for more information.

The US Department of Justice's grantmaking agencies have multiple opportunities open for reducing school violence. The programs below have rapidly approaching deadlines. Contact your project manager if interested.

The BJA STOP School Violence Program is designed to improve school safety by providing students, teachers, and staff with the tools they need to recognize, respond quickly to, and prevent acts of violence. Eligible projects include technological improvements to schools that improve safety, developing safety intervention teams between faculty and police, and school behavioral assessments. Applicants can receive up to $1 million in funding. Initial budget forms are due June 12, and full applications are due June 20. This program is open to state, county, and local entities as well as relevant non-profits. Click for more information.

The COPS School Violence Prevention Program funds local governments, and school districts, to improve security at schools and on school grounds. Potential projects include funding civilian personnel to coordinate with law enforcement, school-violence prevention training for law enforcement, and purchasing school safety technology. Awarded applicants will conduct comprehensive school safety assessments for all schools involved in the project. Initial budgetary forms are due June 11, and full grant applications are due on June 17. Applicants can receive up to $500,000 in funding, with a 25% match.
