Weekly Grant Round-Up

The United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has opened applications for its Solid Waste Infrastructure for Recycling (SWIFR) grant. With this program, the EPA is interested in funding:

  • Projects that help local governments improve their post-consumer materials management infrastructure.

  • Projects that result in a significant decrease in the generation of Municipal Solid Waste.

  • Innovative programs that focus on prevention, reuse, mechanical recycling, anaerobic digestion, and composting as ways to decrease Municipal Solid Waste.

The EPA plans to award $58,000,000 to eligible projects through this program, with awards between $500,000 and $5,000,000. No cost-sharing is required.

The PHS Commissioned Officers Foundation's Barclay-Giel Seed Grant program funds community-based public health programs. Grants are open to all areas of public health, but the program prioritizes projects in the following areas:

  • Firearm Violence.

  • Social Media.

  • Health Misinformation.

  • Health Worker Burnout.

  • Social Connection.

  • Youth Mental Health.

  • Workplace Well-Being.

All proposed projects should have a strong disease and/or injury prevention component that impacts the health of a community.

Applicants can receive up to $10,000 in funding, and applications are due on November 12, 2024.

The United States Economic Development Administration’s Build to Scale program helps entrepreneurs throughout the country demonstrate, deploy, and deliver new technologies. This is done by growing new companies and creating good jobs for US citizens. Organizations, such as local governments, are eligible to apply for projects that aid companies in developing, demonstrating, and deploying new technologies. Eligible projects for this program must meet the following criteria:

  • Building public and private capacity for entrepreneurs to invent and improve new products and services in critical and emerging US industries.

  • Accelerating the growth of regional economies that are focused on critical industries of the future.

  • Empowering communities to assist technology innovators and entrepreneurs.

  • Increase technology-enabled entrepreneurs' access to capital.

Local governments can partner with private organizations, and receive up to $5 million in funding with a 1:1 match.

Applications are due October 28, 2024.

The US Department of Energy's (DOE) Good Jobs in Clean Energy Prize is a competition designed for collaborators and organizations interested in forming coalitions that foster job creation across clean energy sectors. Interested teams are asked to build a comprehensive place-based coalition, comprised of at least one representative from each of the following groups:

  • Labor Organizations.

  • Clean Energy Employers.

  • Community-based Organizations.

  • Public Agencies.

  • Education and Workforce Providers.

Coalitions will plan and implement economic and workforce development strategies that result in good, accessible jobs and a more diverse and skilled clean energy workforce.

The first phase of this program will have 15 awards, each at $50,000.
